In addition to our regular work with charities in the U.S. and abroad, every year FIJI Water sets aside a full day for all of our employees around the globe to step away from their desks and give back to their community.
From Australia to Los Angeles, Fiji to South Florida, our employees around the globe took off a full day on December 16 to give back to our various communities.
Last Thursday, the entire office at FIJI Water’s headquarters in Los Angeles showed up at the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels program on West 3rd Street in Westlake/Echo Park. The St. Vincent program has been in operation since 1977, preparing and distributing meals to the homebound elderly. Today, the program distributes 4700 meals a day in the Greater Los Angeles Metro Area, and over a million meals a year.
FIJI employees spent the day making blankets, assembling Christmas gift bags, and delivering meals to Meals on Wheels clients. FIJI Water was assisted by knitting professional Sasha Ross of Hands-On 3rd and expert volunteers from shopping event Unique LA.
“Looking around at all the tables filled with FIJI Water employees, I felt a great sense of pride. I’m proud to be part of a company like FIJI Water that encourages its employees to help those less fortunate by dedicating a day, company-wide, to give back,” said Kendra Hammer, Consumer Promotions Manager.
After finishing our volunteer work, Cart for a Cause swung by to provide lunch: gourmet sandwiches from Susan Feniger’s STREET. Lunch was served up to volunteers and the entire Meals on Wheels staff by FIJI Water’s LA events team. Thanks, guys, for working so hard while the rest of us ate lunch!
Have you done your good deed(s) for the year? How about donating to Meals on Wheels?
Elsewhere on planet Earth, FIJI Water workers mobilized to do their part and give back. In Australia, the FIJI Water Australia team donated their time and labor to Meals on Wheels Australia. As one employee said, it feels like such a small world when we can support the same charity on the same day 8,000 miles apart!
Our team in Fiji actually conducts volunteer days on a monthly basis. In November, the Fiji office, with charity Give Clean Water, went to the village of Keiyasi in the Navosa region, where they helped install water filters to prevent water-borne illnesses. This is in addition to a borehole, tanks, and reticulation systems installed in the village earlier this year.
Back in the U.S., the Florida team spent the day helping out at Feeding South Florida‘s Broward County facility. In New York, our events team offered their services to Harlem United, to which we also recently donated a van. The team handed out condoms, conducted HIV testing, and participated in needle exchange and other AIDS-prevention programs. “It was the real deal,” said Paul Poux, Event Marketing Manager, East.
In Chicago, the regional sales team spent the day at the Chicago Food Depository Center. According to Erin Kate Johnson, our Northeast Event Marketing Manager, “Teamwork was key when we worked the Flex Line – think I Love Lucy working in the chocolate factory.” The team packed over 774 boxes of food.
